The Power of Coincidence

Canada & the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce Share a Birthday

April 6, 2017

2017 is a fortuitous year for both Canada and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. The reason? Simple. We both celebrate our 150th birthdays.

Founded in 1867, CIBC shares a longstanding history with Canada. As an exceptionally successful multi-national though fundamentally Canadian company, we have contributed to shaping our nation into one of the best in the world, helping people prosper and businesses grow, as we continue to build the bank of the future.

The Michael Fahy Group (CIBC Wood Gundy) is, of course, pleased and proud to be a part of the celebrations in which both our country and our bank will participate.

Arts and culture, festivals to fireworks

Throughout 2017, communities across the country will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of Canada’s Confederation. From arts and culture, festivals to fireworks, exhibitions and sporting events, the country will come together to toast the nation’s sesquicentennial birthday, and show our national spirit and pride!

In the City of Vancouver, these celebrations will be known as Canada 150+ in recognition of the much longer history that our Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations people have in the area.

CIBC partners with Parks Canada

One of the major ways in which CIBC is celebrating the 150th birthday of Canada is through our partnership with Parks Canada.

Starting March 27 through August 2017, Canadians and visitors can now pick up a free Parks Canada 2017 Discovery Pass at any CIBC banking centre coast-to-coast.

This initiative is designed to bring the outdoors to Canadians by offering an opportunity to explore all of Parks Canada’s national locations.

Vancouver’s own Canada 150+ celebrations

Not surprisingly, Vancouver is pulling out all the stops as part of the Canada 150+ celebrations, many of which will be focused around Canada Day on July 1.

But throughout this year you’ll find plenty of reasons to raise a glass to Canada and wish her a happy birthday. The list of events is enormous – and growing – so the best thing to do is go to: www.tourismvancouver.com. You’ll find a feast of information here.

2017 is a great time to be a Canadian and, on behalf of CIBC Wood Gundy and The Michael Fahy Group, we wish all of our friends, family and clients the very best for the forthcoming year.
